Hobbies, part one
I am a Roleplaying gamer. Not computer gamer, not miniature wargamer, I’m talking about pencils and paper and books and rolling funny shaped dice.
Other people have interesting hobbies too.
Here one I stubled across:
Cipher and made up scripts. One of my favorite characters from literature, Patrick O’Brian’s Stephen Maturin, kept a jounal in a cipher. I wonder if it looked anything like these?
Constructed Scripts are created alphabets for existing languages. Most are so stylized as to be little more than decoration.
Some, however, like the Elian Script are beautiful and look like they could actually be used.

Oh, my 17 yr old would like these. He’s into cryptology.
thanks!
I too am a Stephen Maturin fan. I was horrified at how attractively the usually not-so-attractive Russell Crowe made Jack Aubrey come across in the film. Still Sneaky Stephen is my man.
I’m not sure what a rolegamer (or whatever) is. Do you sit around a poker table rolling dice and pretending to be someone, like being an actor or something?
I know…I’m totally lame. What can I say. I live in the dark ages.
Care to bring me up to speed? LOL!
Margi,
I absolutly love that movie. I think Crowe nailed his portrayal of Jack, even if his is a little to thin to be Jack. I am almost done with Blue at the Mizzen and while I’ve found it to be less than its predecessors, I love spending time with Jack and Stephen.
